Blue Tonic is a band of seasoned performers from Cairns intent on sharing the joy of music with others. Seasoned with Country, Rock, Folk, Blues styles this band will orient you with an easy listening, toe tappin’ dance music style. Male and female vocalists in this band with sweet harmonies lift the music yet another notch. Instrumentation is applied as appropriate to each song and may include: Guitars, Bass, Drums, Harmonica and Guitar Mandolin. Blue Tonic's broad repertoire includes a range of songs from Australian and International artists covering music from the 80s, 90s and beyond to contemporary music of the day.

Multiple songwriters in the band provide further extension with "home grown" flavours with broad diversity. Currently in the process of recording for their debut album.  Band members include: Peter Grayson, Trevor Gane, Jim McCabe, Dave Lonegan, Morag Gane and Shirley Lynn.

Blue Tonic have performed in many local Cairns venues, at private functions and local community events including: Balcony TV - The Jack 2015, Australia Day Big Breakfast -Palm Cove 2015, Tablelands Folk Festival - Herberton concert 2014, regulars on Cairns Esplanade 2013-2014 and Palm Cove Reef Feast 2014.  Blue Tonic have performed at Yorkey’s Knob community events including Festival of the Knob and Carols by Candlelight since 2010.  Music for all occasions... local venues, weddings, parties, festivals, functions, corporate gigs.

Peter Grayson

Peter Grayson: Acoustic guitar, guitar mandolin, harmonica, whistle

Peter GraysonPeter Grayson started playing guitar late in life at the age of 35 when his new wife convinced him to expand on his love of music and singing. 20 years have now since passed. From that time Peter has set about improving his skills and has played as a solo artist and is a founding member of Blue Tonic. He has written a number of songs that have been received well wherever they have been aired and this craft is ever evolving. Regular jam sessions are held at Peter's house in Cairns and sound recording is now also a serious interest.

Peter has been performing in Blackboard sessions all over and has also played at every Yorkey’s Knob Festival bar only one (1).

Now engineering sound and recording in his own studio "Tonic Sound" located at Yorkeys Knob.

Trevor Gane

Trevor Gane: Lead guitarist

Trevor Gane

Trevor grew up in Melbourne and started playing music when he was 15. He had some piano lessons much earlier and had a good ear for music. His mother played piano and his father played harmonica. 

Trevor’s early influences were the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and later Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd and Santana. Trevor went to many concerts in Melbourne to see local and International acts. He jammed with a garage band, Private Lives in the mid 80s and in the late 80’s with a country folk band called Horizons when he played at Knox Festival and other venues. He was involved with folk clubs and music networks in the Yarra Valley and always jamming with full on musos.

Trevor moved to Cairns in ’96 and has played with many people over the 10 years and collaborated as a band member of Blue Tonic.  The philosophy of the band is the joy of making music.

Trevor plays acoustic, electric and slide guitar, harmonica and vocals. Over the years Trevor has also enjoyed music collaboration with his partner Morag who plays the flute and sings.

Dave Lonegan

Dave Lonegan: Drummer

Dave Lonegan David grew up in a musical family in Sydney and as the youngest of six (6) kids took up the drums aged nine (9) as the available position in the family band. Branching out as a teenager to take up guitar, harmonica and song writing, he has been involved in various party bands and at times can be found dabbling in bass/keyboards and harmonies at many charitable celebrations.

In the last ten years David got back to drumming with two local bands "Rusty Nails" (Pub rock Coverband) and original Rock Blues outfit "Loose Cannon" who released the 17 track CD "All Over the world” and a live unpublished double CD "Last Gig Party Set", as well as recordings on a few of the Northern Exposure Pandamonium series mid 2000s.

Recently he has been continuing to compose soft rock songs on his acoustic and joined Blue Tonic- with friends he has been jamming with for some time -always available as a Drummer – he just enjoys and loves making /playing music.

Jim McCabe

Jim McCabe: Bass guitarist

Jim McCabeJim is an instrumental music teacher (guitar, ukulele and bass) currently teaching students privately and at St. Monica’s College, Freshwater Christian College and Peace Lutheran College. Jim also plays in the duo "Silktones" with Shirley Lynn and they released their EP "Liberty" in 2014.

Originally from Brisbane, Jim has performed regularly with other musicians and performing arts people.  

Jim has played in numerous bands with styles that included rock, blues, bluegrass, folk, country and jazz.

In days gone by Jim played in and around Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Whitsunday Islands and the Queensland Mid-West mining belt where he provided backing support to various artists.

Shirley Lynn

Shirley Lynn: Acoustic guitarist, harmonica, chimes

shirley Lynn Shirl is a multi award winning North Queensland songwriter, female vocalist and guitarist.  “My Kind of Paradise” written by Shirl was awarded the 2015 Best Song at the Max T Barnes Cairns to Nashville Song Comp as well as Song of Carnivale [2013]. Additionally it was awarded RADF funding for the creation of a music video. Shirl released her debut CD – “It’s About Time” at the end of 2012. "Sea Turtle Quest" a song written for the opening of the Seaturtle Rehabilitation Hospital at Fitzroy Island is a recorded single.

When Shirl is not performing with Blue Tonic, she is a regular performer at Songwriters on the Waterfront at the Hilton in Cairns or playing in the duo“Silktones” with Jim McCabe. Silktones released their debut EP "Liberty" in 2014.

Born on the Atherton Tablelands Shirl's joy for music was nurtured in the days when she developed an interest as a solo performer playing in and around local Tableland venues.

Other musicians and players who have been a part of Blue Tonic and/or Pete Grayson and friends line-up at some time include: Morag Gane, Bob Davis, Shaman Grayson, Brett Hank, Joe, Peter O'Brien and Paula Gampe.
