Shirl supporting Max T Barnes at the Atherton International Club

> Max T Barnes Website

Blue Tonic at Passport to Airlee Beach eventWhen asked to play at the Atherton International Club as support act for Max T Barnes along with Karl Edwards, I was really stoked to accept such an offer. Max, an acclaimed songwriter from Nashville was here in the north to conduct his songwriting seminars - one at the Tablelands Music Lovers Shed and one at Holloways Beach Sporting Complex just north of Cairns.

For this gig I was especially pleased to be able to return to my hometown, Atherton where my love of music and performance was first nurtured so many years ago to play a gig there in front of family and friends and those who'd come along to see us at the show. My selection of songs included songs that I'd written that were inspired by my life and connections there.

International Club Atherton with Max T BarnesThe afternoon kicked off with Karl Edwards who performed for us a selection of his easy listening tunes. Accompanied by Jim McCabe, I performed a set of my original songs with some selected covers. Max performed many hit songs that he had written and also some written by his dad, Max D Barnes.

By invitation we joined Max to do some harmonies in the final stages of the show and concluded on the note with Jim leading a country medley of songs accompanied also by Graham Lees on cajon. Kim joined in also with the first couple of songs.

In conjunction with Max's visit here in the north he was also conducting a song contest, "Cairns to Nashville" and the finals were set to take place in Cairns at Holloways Beach Sporting Complex.
