Tablelands Folk Festival 2016

TFF - Shirl at Curtain Fig Stage2016 Tablelands Folk Festival commenced in Herberton on the Thursday night and then continued on through the weekend at Yungaburra with performances from many local, regional, interstate and international acts. The festival was well attended with a great positive vibe from all who participated - performers, volunteers, organisers and attendees.

Shirl was programmed to perform as Friday night opener on the Fig Tree Stage - a new venue to the festival this year. She performed on The Fringe and in the Pub lounge on Sunday morning.

Impromptu jams sessions took place this year on The Fringe Stage and Blue Tonic did a set on Friday and Saturday nights joined by Rod Collins on harmonica.

The Festival provided non-stop music on multiple stages over the weekend. Festival favourites also included the Songwriting competitions, Poets Brekky, free Children's Festival & Parade, Wellbeing Fair, Market Stalls, & the famous Pub Verandah non-stop Jams.

2016 Songwriter's competition received a high level of interest and registrations had to close early to ensure the manageability of the event. With three new categories and new sponsors on board the prizes were fabulous and the level of talent was high. With a close competition the winners were:

Best Song: Tim Borella
Open Songwriter Category: Tim Borella
Emerging Category: Amber Farnan

Our amazing sponsors for the event were:
Buzz Music, McGinty's Irish Bar, Atherton Trophies and Cairns Voice Studio
Judges for the competition were Bob Elliston, Aleta Tulk and Shirley Lynn.

Shirl conducted a workshop - Songwriters Share Circle which was a conversational approach to sharing information, tools and resources for songwriting.
