Songwriter Competition | APRA AMCOS Grant
APRA AMCOS awarded a grant of $2000 to the Tablelands Folk Festival McGinty's Songwriter Competition this year. Our application in the category of Awards and Recognition, requested funding support in the context of the Tablelands Folk Festival where songwriters are provided with the opportunity to showcase their talent competing for prestigious awards, industry related prizes and a star turn for the winners on the main festival stage. Each participant in the competition was acknowledged with a certificate of participation and a judge's evaluation summary providing relevant indicators used for judging their competition entry and an expressed comment for competitors to take away in the interest of furthering their songwriting development.
In conjunction with the competition all participants and interested songwriters were invited to attend the songwriter workshop "Cradle to the Wav" facilitated by RedCrow ARIA nominee Sarah Calderwood and songwriter/producer Mirko Ruckels. RedCrow provided multiple performances at the festival featuring original tunes, soulful harmonies and instrumentation showcasing their songwriting talent and how it can be taken to a professional performance level.
Promotional material including flyers, posters and promos targeted songwriters in various locations in and around Cairns, Port Douglas, Tully, Kuranda, Mareeba, Atherton, Malanda and Yungaburra.
Through our application, awareness was raised about the need to apply a "gender lens" with the intention to address gender inequality. Intentionally, the competition was publicised in places to find a broard reach aiming to ensure women and girls equal opportunity with men and boys to participate in the competition.
The competition provided motivation for all contending songwriters to prepare themselves for a worthwhile event showcasing their talent and song with the opportunity to establish their confidence and be in the running to win prestigious prizes elevating their personal profile and step them inthe direction for further experience and development.
