World AIDS Day is an important time to come together to reflect and remember. Cairns World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil was held on December 1st between 6pm and 7pm at the Cairns North Western Events Lawn, Cairns Esplanade.

This event held on the same day each year raises awareness in communities around the world about HIV and AIDS. People in attendance showed their support and commemorated those who have died placing roses and lit candles in shared time and place together.

An official introduction from the MC, followed by Welcome to Country by traditional owners was followed by speakers Mark Mills, Melissa Warner and Rebecca Reynolds, the reading of names, a minute's silence, candles lit and flowers laid with music provided by Shirley Lynn.
