Support Act - Mental Health First Aid

With support from the Australian Government through the Office for the Arts, Support Act brought the nationally accredited Mental Health First Aid training to Wrapping Love Up for Christmas - Shirley Lynn & MC Ponyartists, crew and music workers all around Australia. Mental Health First Aid is a nationally accredited training for individuals and teams to be able to effectively respondto mental health issues.

On completion of this 12 hour course with Make Shift two 2.5 hour online workshops were included teaching skills for providing initial help to a person who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. With successful completion of the course and assessment Shirley Lynn is now an accredited - Standard Mental Health First Aider. A manual provided with the course continues to be a helpful resource and reference tool.

On completion of the Mental Health First Aid, an invitation was received to join Press Play, a program developed in partnership with Support Act also conducted by Make Shift. Four 1.5 hour weekly sessions explored some of the challenges working in the music industry poses and how to overcome them with different tools and creative practices.

Mental Health is an area of care not to be overlooked on any day, let alone in current circumstances amplified by the shifts and changes associated with the world pandemic.
