North Queensland dynamic duo, Shirley Lynn and Jim McCabe - "Silktones" have performed together around Cairns and beyond since 2011.  With an extensive repertoire of songs drawn across the last 5 decades through to contemporary times they provide variety in styles including light rock, pop, blues, country and folk. Shirl and Jim blend vocal and instrumental fusions – riffs, rhythms, tones and harmonies that are the quality threads of “Silktones”. 

Their EP "Liberty" produced and recorded at Tonic Sound, Yorkeys Knob features six (6) catchy original tunes with elements of slide, swing blues, folk and easy listening country grooves.

LibertySilktones' debut CD "Liberty" is available now. The album was recorded and produced at Sound Tonic in Yorkeys Knob with Peter Grayson. Into the mix of creating this album, Jim added acoustic and bass guitar and vocals. Shirl added acoustic guitar, vocals and harmonica. Purchase music here.

Life's About the Little Things - Carter and CarterThe song, "Crocodile Wise" was written by Jim McCabe and Shirley Lynn and was recorded at the Shangrila Hotel, Cairns with Kris Hutchison for balcony TV. This video is viewable on Balcony TV Cairns Portal, You Tube and Shirley Lynn Website.

Jim McCabe:
As a musician, Jim is also a member of the band "Blue Tonic".  He is an instrumental music teacher for guitar, ukulele and bass, teaching students privately and at St. Monica’s College, Freshwater Christian College and Peace Lutheran College. Other local bands that Jim has played in  have included: "Raging Waters" and "The Dedications" working with styles that have included rock, blues, bluegrass, folk, country and jazz. As a member of a family band Jim gained extensive experience and versatility. Jim’s experience has included active involvement with orchestras, choirs and theatre groups for local performances, presentations and productions.  Jim and Shirley hosted the Musician's Night at Clifton Capers for 2 years and Songwriters on the Waterfront at Mondos on occasions.

Shirley Lynn:
As a guitarist and singer songwriter, Shirley has performed in and around Cairns at Songwriters events for over five (5) years. She performs a number of her songs in the band "Blue Tonic” as well as in "Silktones". She is a multi award winning songwriter, the winner of 2015 Best Song, Max T Barnes - Cairns to Nashville contest,  2013 Port Douglas Song of Carnivale and the recipient of RADF funding for the development of a music video for her song, “My Kind of Paradise." She has also been nominated three years running in the local Cairns Post Hit Awards. Shirley released her debut CD – “It’s About Time” at the end of 2012.

Sara Hughes:
As a violin player Sara is no stranger to the Tablelands Folk Festival. Year after year she has joined the veranda jam sessions and the Yungaburra sessions leading up to the folk festival. Sara brings such zestful and infectious fun with her playing. Sara also joins Silktones providing embellished musical improvisation to the sound of the duo to become "Silktones Plus".

Graham Lees:
Graham is a renowned drummer and percussionist having played in and around the Atherton Tablelands over many years. Graham has recently been involved in the Malanda theatre production, "Gallipoli" and has been playing in the band "Paronella". In days gone by Graham was a drummer in the band "Copper Sole". Graham also joins Silktones providing embellished percussion to the sound of the duo to become "Silktones Plus".
